Suppressing Free Speech in Australia

The Far Left has a desire to suppress free speech that is ominous, in view of the authoritarian state that we would have if a party like the Greens ever won office. See this article about how a Green leader in Australia wants to punish Cardinal Pell for his views:

Most recently in Australia the focus has been on the Catholic Church, in particular two of its leaders - Cardinal George Pell in Sydney and Archbishop Barry Hickey in Perth. On Friday Lee Rhiannon, the leader of the NSW Greens, sought to have Pell investigated for contempt of Parliament. It is most unlikely Pell will be found guilty of contempt.

What is at issue is the right of religious leaders to instruct members of their church. Pell and Hickey have counselled Catholic MPs - Coalition and Labor - not to support legislation endorsing the cloning of human embryos. Pell made no mention of excommunicating Catholics who voted for the legislation. But, in response to a question, he did not rule out the possibility they might be refused Communion.
