One reason for the increase in middle-aged deaths is the big increase in Accidental Deaths (car accidents, overdoses, etc) in 2020. It would be interesting to figure out the size of that (and murder) for that group relative to covid.  https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/news/20210927/murders-surged-in-us-in-2020

There is an interesting [https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2021-12-08/traffic-deaths-surged-during-covid-19-pandemic-heres-why LA Times article] on how traffic deaths soared in 2020 and even more int he first half of 2021. I wonder if drugs and alcohol could explain it 100%.

Introduction

  • "According to a meta-analysis by Dr John Ioannidis [Professor of Medicine at Stanford University] of every seroprevalence study conducted to date of publication with a supporting scientific paper (74 estimates from 61 studies and 51 different localities around the world), the median infection survival rate from COVID-19 infection is 99.77 per cent. For COVID-19 patients under 70, the meta-analysis finds an infection survival rate of 99.95 per cent.

The CDC’s [Centres for Disease Control] and Prevention] best estimate of infection fatality rate for people ages 70 plus years is 5.4 per cent, meaning seniors have a 94.6 per cent survivability rate. For children and people in their 20s/30s, it poses less risk of mortality than the flu. For people in their 60s and above, it is much more dangerous than the flu." https://lockdownsceptics.org/risk-of-asymptomatic-spread-minimal-variants-over-hyped-masks-pointless-an-interview-with-professor-jay-bhattacharya/

Death Rates for the Middle-Aged

  • Something odd: in 2020 the death RATE rose the biggest % (tho not absolute amount) for people aged 25-44, 24% increase in the probability of dying. People aged 85+ had the smallest % increase (14%) except for kids... See my spreadsheet of data . Since old people start with a much higher base rate, the % ADDITION to their mortality rate rose by more.

There is an interesting LA Times article on how traffic deaths soared in 2020 and even more int he first half of 2021. I wonder if drugs and alcohol could explain it 100%.
