Who Is Vulnerable?

CDC Tables show that 2020-early2021, covid19 deaths were 13% of deaths from all causes for people aged 50-64, and 20% for those aged over 85. So the reason the median age of covid deaths is around 80 is because the median age of ALL deaths is about 76.

Death Rates for the Middle-Aged

  • Something odd: in 2020 the death RATE rose the biggest % (tho not absolute amount) for people aged 25-44, 24% increase in the probability of dying. People aged 85+ had the smallest % increase (14%) except for kids... See my spreadsheet of data . Since old people start with a much higher base rate, the % ADDITION to their mortality rate rose by more.

One reason for the increase in middle-aged deaths is the big increase in Accidental Deaths (car accidents, overdoses, etc) in 2020. It would be interesting to figure out the size of that (and murder) for that group relative to covid. https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/news/20210927/murders-surged-in-us-in-2020
