Rep kits are a great method of repairing your gear until you can get to the trailhead to have it professionally repaired. The most important thing is to know when to do when you need it.

It is crucial to have the right tools at hand when you are out in the field. This kit was developed with this in mind, and contains all of the basic hand tools required for repairs on the field. All of the tools are made of steel with minimal plastic to ensure they can withstand rep kit use. The kit comes complete with the coalcracker tool, a canvas zippered pouch and includes awl, reamer, twist awl, cutting shears, gimlet (5MM), sinue spool made of wood, an oil bottle for the coalcracker tool oil and a set of illustrated instructions.

Repair Patches

If you've got holes or two in your gears, consider adding adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches made of heavy-duty materials have high-performance glue applied on a tough polyurethane back which lets a tear that is triggered by pressure to heal. These patches are available in transparent or colored versions. They provide durability against punctures as well as sun, moisture, saltwater and temperature extremes.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items, consider adding a bag with waterproof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight adhesive will stick to plastics, fabrics, metals, and more for an enduring fix. This is great for repairing drysuits and also employed in the field. Let the sealant sit for up to 12 hours to dry before utilizing the repaired equipment.

Use the tube-scuffer tool to roughen the surface. This will help the glue stick. Then spread a thin coating of glue on the patch and cover an area at least as big as the patch. Wait for the glue to become tacky and then press the patch in firmly and hold it in place.

This kit includes two adhesive-backed, clear Tenacious Tape fabric repair patches. It also includes an ounce Seam Grip urethane sealant and repair adhesive. It is ideal for reinforcing damaged sleeping bags, rainwear and backpacks.
