Students in K-12 shouldn't be writing stories or making arguments. First, they need to learn how to write (a) descriptions of events, and (b) instructions. Only then can they move on to use imagination and logic, once they've learned to write police reports and military commands.

This is not as easy as it sounds. It is one of the hardest things for postgraduate law students to learn to do. It may actually come easily. Strunk and White starts with a description by a boy that is very good, written well because he thinks clearly. Most people do not think clearly, though, and they need to learn this as they learn writing.
