Bloom’s Word Index for Plato’s Republic

Paradigm format:

Sensible, φρόνιμος, phronimos [frŏ́nimo̅s], Strong’s 5429. IV-421c.

<b> Sensible,</b> φρόνιμος, <i> <font color= blue> phronimos </font color=blue> </i> [fro&#769;’nimo&#773;s], <a href=”https://biblehub.com/greek/5429.htm”> Strong’s 5429</a>. IV-421c.

á comes from &aacute;   (ánthracite, fanátical, appálled) (á,é,í,ó,ú)
and comes from <s>a</s>nd
ā comes from &amacr;  (rāte, bīte, frēe, pōll, rūle)
â comes from &acirc;  (wâlk, sôrt)

ĭ comes from &#301;  (kĭt)
ŏ comes from &#335;   (hŏt)

I ought to write on phonetics. The International Phonetic Alphabet is fine for scholars, useless for everyone else. Transliteration is in sad shape. Linguists are idiots— entirely unappreciative of utility, as opposed to accuracy. Dictionaries have gone to spelling out sounds, which might be the best solution, but I still have hopes for symbols.

Useful references on HTML symbols include
UTF-8 General Punctuation and UTF-8 Latin Extended A and https://dev.w3.org/html5/html-author/charref and English Phonetics: IPA vs American Heritage Dictionary vs Merriam-Webster.

Use Wordpad for editing. Save as text files in Wordpad, but with the *.htm suffix.

This is for a supplement to Allen Bloom’s translation of Plato’s The Republic, second edition. Has anyone done such a supplement before?
Things to add: Strong’s number and link, Greek letters, missing words, Book number.
To tidy up: boldface and italics, line splits, typos, missing pages, periods at end of list of words and at the end of the entry. Eliminate bullet points.
Also to add: A map of Greece with every city marked that is mentioned in The Republic. We should add pronunciations and Greek letters to the Index of Names that precedes the Index of Subjects.

Ben and Lily and Faith each have a section that they have starte– barely– to work on. We might turn the whole project over to Amelia, since she is interested in graduate school in philosophy.

Relevant links: Jowett’s translation and word index. Adam’s Greek edition. He has a commentary too. Goodes’s hypertext computerized concordance.

Crucial: Juan and Maria Balboa translation of Plato’s Republic. Interlinear modern English with ancient (Attic) Greek words rearranged in each sentence
