Remembering to Think

We need to realize there are two big dimensions to rationality: (a) Intelligence (IQ, being able to figure things out) and (b) Remembering to use your brain (as opposed to just acting without thinking). Common sense is perhaps the use of (b)  in situations where someone of even quite limited intellect will make the right decision if he uses his brain at all, but where the high-IQ person utterly fails because he doesn't use his high-IQ brain.  We see a lot of this in academia, where high IQ is normal, but using one's brain is maybe no more common than with Wal-Mart greeters.
